I read all the reviews thoroughly before I bought this vacuum. I was aware of the leaking problem mentioned by many people. I read the directions thoroughly, I assembled it correctly, and on first pass, it worked great. On second pass it sucked up the dirt well, but leaked all the water all over the rug when making my second pass.
I rechecked all attachments, rehooked, reclasped every lid and tried again…it worked for awhile, but again, when I went to change the water, the second time it leaked…it leaked while I tried to figure out why it was leaking, and it is still leaking…it may be the man, not the machine, but the frustration factor coupled with the tempermental leaky machine is not worth the time, money or frustration.

I got the medium size Furminator for my cats after reading and researching the reviews. I used it and was impressed with all the fur that came out. Then I noticed that my cat looked somewhat bleached and realized that his coat was thinned out. he looks like one of those older ladies that tints her hair apricot but you can see the white roots below. My beautiful black cat now has a gray area on his flank where the fur is noticably thinner and rough from having the top fur removed. The Furminator doesn’t just remove dead hair, it generates more by breaking off the “good” fur. And the fur flies all over the place, sticks to the wall and the rug in puffy tuffs. I was happy with it at first but now I’m going to return it. My poor cat-boys’ coats look patchy, dull and worse than before.
KitchenAid 17 Inch Slider
I have recently purchased a Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 VC, and subsequently a Nikkor 17-55mm f2.8.
I think the Tamron is a very sharp lens in its own right, especially when you use a smaller aperture. At the largest aperture of f2.8, however, I think the Tamron is a bit softer when compared to the Nikkor counterpart. Also, Tamron is a bit slower in a low light situation and a bit noisier with the VC. Furthermore, Tamron doesn’t appear to be weather sealed, but the Nikkor is. The Tamron has a VC, while the Nikkor doesn’t.
If you don’t plan to spend $1400 or so for a lens but are still looking for something sharp and fast, Tamron would be the perfect affordable substitute. However, if budget is not an issue, and you want to be able to use the largest aperture in a low light condition and still producing the sharpest images, and that weather seal is important to you, then Nikkor would be recommended.
I decided to keep both lenses, though the Tamron will be used primarily by my wife with her Nikon D90 due to the lighter weight, while I will use the Nikkor with my Nikon D300S.
