I was initially torn between the Kindle 2 and the DX, but after reading countless reviews I went with the Kindle 2. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because the Kindle 2 really should have been designed with a memory card slot like the Kindle 1. Other than the lack of an expansion card slot, the device is fantastic. I normally leave the wireless turned off and the battery lasts forever it seems. The Kindle 2 really came alive for me when I downloaded MobiPocket Creator on my PC and used it to convert my PDF copies of books and documents into the PRC format. As an IT professional, it’s great to be able to carry gobs of technical books around in a device that is sturdy, light, and easy to use. The Kindle 2 has been my best technical purchase in the last 12 months. I love it!. The leather cover is a must-have as well. If you too are struggling between the Kindle 2 and the DX, I recently posted a more in-depth review with pictures over on my blog with pictures and the technical reasons behind my decision. “I have a lot of reading to do and I need to plow through an average of 40-80 pages from books on a daily basis. (That excludes 180-220 emails per day, blogs and websites). I don’t know if that number is high or low by your standards, but I find that each year the amount of reading I need to do always goes up.
Now, even though I’m a geek, I don’t want to be a nerd. And carrying a fake book around is getting pretty deep into nerd territory. But I figure that with features like playing MP3s and cellular wireless, that swings me back over to the geek camp. So, after an inordinate amount of online research, I purchased a Kindle 2 from Amazon.com. I picked the Kindle 2 model over the Kindle DX for several reasons.

My husband and I programmed it very precisely and and triple-checked our counting and measuring of my steps and I am confused about all the rave reviews. I’ve counted my jogging route steps several times and it is alway between 7775 and 7825 of my steps. Previous pedometers I’ve had (I lose them and drop them in the toilet) have never been more than 150 steps off from the number of steps that I’ve counted several times. This one I’ve now used 3 times on this exact route and it always reads very random numbers but all within the 5000 range, off by over 2000 steps for just a 45 min jog. Plus it says my route is a little over 2 miles but we’ve measured that before on bike and in car and on other pedometers and it is 3.12 miles exactly. (I know, I’m a slow jogger, even after 24 years of it.)
I won’t even get into the calorie counter. All I know about that is that on the two treadmills I regulary use and on all the machines I’ve used in the last few decades I’ve always averaged about 7 calories per 100 steps and this pedometer at the end of each day works out to about 3 calories per 100 steps.
Maybe I got a lemon.

I had heard this was a good book. I was misinformed. This was the most crude, foul book I have ever attempted to read. Though the main story was mildly interesting, the all too frequent use of profanity and descriptions of intimate relations put me off entirely. I started trying to use white out to cover the offensive items. I quickly realized that would include a great deal of the book. I decided I didn’t want to fill my mind with such things and stopped reading. This book went directly into the recycle bin rather than being donated to a thrift store. I didn’t want another unwitting person to go through the same experience I did.

Having been a teacher, and seen first hand how subjects such as history and religion can be distorted and rewritten to serve an author’s prejudices and agendas, I can only advise people choosing to read this book to go to an original source for a true accounting. In this case, go to the Bible, God’s book of revelation of Himself if you want a true
‘conversation’ with Him. The audacity and sheer want of taste and intelligence of Walsch defies belief. Would you presume to write a book claiming you are speaking as God to define morality and truth? If the answer is yes, then do read conversations with god (lack of capitalization intentional) and determine how you too can advise people what is truth and make money at the same time. P.T. Barnum said it best, ‘there is a sucker born every minute’ and people will be lining up to buy your book. (But definitely make the truth palatable, and ‘prove’ that there are no consequences for immoral behavior, or as the ‘new truth’ of the seventies espoused..I’m okay, you’re okay) There will always be a ready audience for this premise. Unfortunately for you, the painful truth is that there ARE consequences for immoral choices, and you will be held accountable for misleading others, especially children. Matthew 16:26

Bought this SD card when I bought my Canon DSLR. Worked well and the write speeds were really good. I was able to continously shoot 3 RAW+JPEG(~13Mb) frames in a second. But, the big day comes and I am preparing to shoot an event. Formatted the SD card, kept it all ready. Took may be 10 pictures at this event and I get a card error. Tried to format again and it failed. Luckily I had a smaller 2GB Kingston with me and ended up just shooting JPEGs.
Tried formatting the SD card at home on the desktop and still no luck. Looks like its corrupt.

I understand some of the criticism, but does a book have to be a literary masterpiece to be immensely enjoyable? The overwhelming positive reviews explain why not.
It is well researched, but maybe the plot stretched a bit too far at times and low quality dialogues have taken away from the book’s otherwise star quality.
The depression era was well represented, gave a good realistic feel of the troubled times and the people. Circus setting was pure genius, and made it so interesting.
Overall, it is a very enjoyable book, very readable.
