In an era of crappy products with impossible to understand manuals and a paucity (or no) peripheral programs, the Garmin 305 stands out as a clear winner. I have used both Polar and Suunto high end HRMs and hands down the Garmin wins on all counts. I haven’t had it long enough to attest to durability but subjectively it appears and feels as though you could throw it off a cliff and it would continue to work well. The unit is solid and hasn’t given one seconds trouble. The software links and the programs themselves are reliable and actually helpful. The ease of connection to the even more desirable Train Peaks software is seamless. The HRM receiver strap is equally high quality and appears quite durable. What might be a negative? The only downside that I’ve encountered is the long load time on start-up. Other than that it has become one of my possessions that were I to lose it, a replacement would be made immediately. Might even spring for one day post.

I agonized for several weeks whether I really wanted to invest in one. The decision was the right one. There is nothing more soothing than the feel of a real book in your hands. But having used it for over a month now, it’s all I hoped it would be. Actually it’s better than a book from the standpoint of holding it and turning pages. You can hold it with either hand and turn pages without readjusting everything which with a 600 or 700 page book becomes difficult when first starting it or at the end of it. While everyone is enthralled with touch screens and color, the kindle performs as advertised. A touch version would probably be more long lasting than the mechanical switches now in use. The expansion of web surfing to a limited degree, MP3 player and audio features are very good add-ons. My only suggestion at this point is that a way to create an index by subject of your books or some other compliation process would be helpful. I can see that when you accumulate a couple of hundred books they might be hard to find. On the other hand, after being read, why do you need to clutter up your device? Delete it from the device. You’ll always have it available at Amazon or on your computer if you want to read it again. It goes where I go and I have used my IPOD to read my Kindle Books also. One last feature that should not be left out, how about nearly a half million titles to choose from. It must have caught on because the new IPAD is “Kindle” friendly. It is much superior to the Sony reader without question.
