I’m confused. Artemis Fowl is actually the antagonist of this story. How can the main character of a book be the antagonist? He is very un-likeable to the point where i almost put the book down. Here we have these good likeable fairy creatures and this spoiled rotten little boy just terrorizes them. I actually wanted him to die at the end. I think maybe this author got his priorities wrong when he developed this story. If the reader doesn’t like the main character, then there’s a problem. I will buy next book in this series and hope that Artemis becomes a bit more likeable. If i was still 12 years old and i saw Artemis on the

This cable is great! Original LG OEM and fits perfectly. I used to own a “no name” cable and it fit, but not as snug as this one, wasn’t as long either. This one is perfect. Check out lg-vu dot com for themes and mods for your Vu! Endless fun and a large growing community. This cable is the first step to making your Vu a great phone again!

We replaced a 35 year old professional type vacuum with this one. Didn’t try to compare them in any way. Only interested in a cleaner that picked up well. And this one does just that. Yes, it does have some design flaws. I have to agree with the other reviewers that the cord placement is too low. Easy fix was to fasten it higher up on the handle with a piece of electrical tape. Seems to me those that made such a fuss about the sound were exaggerating a bit. And, I haven’t had any belts break yet, but ordered extas just in case. I tend to wonder if those who had that problem didn’t have the setting too low to the carpet expecting better pick up. I will say I miss the headlight my old cleaner had. All in all I think it’s a great little machine for the money. Do I think it’s going to last 35 years? Nope. But, by then I’ll most likely be pushing daisies, not a vacuum.

I was initially torn between the Kindle 2 and the DX, but after reading countless reviews I went with the Kindle 2. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because the Kindle 2 really should have been designed with a memory card slot like the Kindle 1. Other than the lack of an expansion card slot, the device is fantastic. I normally leave the wireless turned off and the battery lasts forever it seems. The Kindle 2 really came alive for me when I downloaded MobiPocket Creator on my PC and used it to convert my PDF copies of books and documents into the PRC format. As an IT professional, it’s great to be able to carry gobs of technical books around in a device that is sturdy, light, and easy to use. The Kindle 2 has been my best technical purchase in the last 12 months. I love it!. The leather cover is a must-have as well. If you too are struggling between the Kindle 2 and the DX, I recently posted a more in-depth review with pictures over on my blog with pictures and the technical reasons behind my decision. Here’s the text from that review (the chart and pictures are on the blog):

Amazon Kindle 2 – From an SBS Geek Perspective

“I have a lot of reading to do and I need to plow through an average of 40-80 pages from books on a daily basis. (That excludes 180-220 emails per day, blogs and websites). I don’t know if that number is high or low by your standards, but I find that each year the amount of reading I need to do always goes up.

Now, even though I’m a geek, I don’t want to be a nerd. And carrying a fake book around is getting pretty deep into nerd territory. But I figure that with features like playing MP3s and cellular wireless, that swings me back over to the geek camp. So, after an inordinate amount of online research, I purchased a Kindle 2 from Amazon.com. I picked the Kindle 2 model over the Kindle DX for several reasons.

(chart not shown)

GOOD – The DX has 2x the screen & 2x the storage.

BAD – The DX has nearly 2x the weight and 2x the cost.

My husband and I programmed it very precisely and and triple-checked our counting and measuring of my steps and I am confused about all the rave reviews. I’ve counted my jogging route steps several times and it is alway between 7775 and 7825 of my steps. Previous pedometers I’ve had (I lose them and drop them in the toilet) have never been more than 150 steps off from the number of steps that I’ve counted several times. This one I’ve now used 3 times on this exact route and it always reads very random numbers but all within the 5000 range, off by over 2000 steps for just a 45 min jog. Plus it says my route is a little over 2 miles but we’ve measured that before on bike and in car and on other pedometers and it is 3.12 miles exactly. (I know, I’m a slow jogger, even after 24 years of it.)
I won’t even get into the calorie counter. All I know about that is that on the two treadmills I regulary use and on all the machines I’ve used in the last few decades I’ve always averaged about 7 calories per 100 steps and this pedometer at the end of each day works out to about 3 calories per 100 steps.
Maybe I got a lemon.

There is a major rip-off going on in HDMI A/V world and it’s the cables. “Big Box” stores are making more money selling you HDMI cables than they are selling you a Blu-Ray player! In the world of digital transmission the data is either there or it isn’t. How it gets there (cable) does not affect the quality! So come on all you A/V freaks and get with the program. These cables work perfectly and in no way deteriorate my audio or video signal AND they are anywhere from $26 to$46 cheaper than the stuff you’ll find at “Big Box Audio/Video”. So don’t spend “monster” cash for digital cabling. I’ll bet you have something else you could use that money for. (Like a couple of new Blu-Ray discs?)

I had heard this was a good book. I was misinformed. This was the most crude, foul book I have ever attempted to read. Though the main story was mildly interesting, the all too frequent use of profanity and descriptions of intimate relations put me off entirely. I started trying to use white out to cover the offensive items. I quickly realized that would include a great deal of the book. I decided I didn’t want to fill my mind with such things and stopped reading. This book went directly into the recycle bin rather than being donated to a thrift store. I didn’t want another unwitting person to go through the same experience I did.

In all my life, I have read hundreds of books, and few were so enjoyable as this book, Artemis Fowl.

The book is set in our current time and begins with a 12-year-old genius finding a fantastical creature, green and slimy and in pain from alcoholism, and forces it to give him a copy of The Book–the Fairy’s Bible in essence. From here it goes into an exciting, dangerous, and twisty story full of surprises and characters you wouldn’t expect.

The novelty of this book is the fact that it has an entirely new take on fairies. It doesn’t show them as cute little creatures who sprinkle pink sparkly dust all over you. These fairies are heavily-armed, high technology, and completely human-like. They have very human qualities that makes them appealing, but they have (obviously) many things about them that are inherently fairy. They have familiar fairy qualities, but yet Colfer was able to add other elements to the fairies that we’ve never seen before. One of the most unique was the reinvention of the dwarf. Dwarfs have been transformed into tunnelers who consume the dirt and digest it in seconds to tunnel through the ground and cover up their tracks. It seems disgusting when you first read it, but it comes in handy later in the book and in the series.

The fairy technology is one of my favorite parts of the book. Such intricate ideas and designs–truly ingenious. There are too many to list them all, but probably the most dangerous is the Bio-Bomb, or “blue rinse.” It destroys all life in its proximity, yet leaves all other structures intact. This is one of dozens of inventions Colfer’s devious mind has created.

The writing was excellent, and although it was cheesy at some points, there are some witty elements that are going to make you laugh.

A great book all in all. I would call it “required reading!”

The Defender is a great product and offers a much higher level of protection than any other case I’ve seen, but it’s not foolproof. I have probably dropped my iphone about 20 times since got it in Nov. However, on Christmas eve I had it laying in my lap and stood up. My iphone dropped to the tile floor and when I picked it up the LCD screen was white with blue and red lines running the length of the screen on the right side. I took it to a repair shop and had to have the screen replaced. I too have the oil slick issue but its not a big deal to me. The biggest problem is the reason that I have dropped it so much is that every time I have it in the belt clip and happen to bump the belt clip even with my arm or hand the phone will fall out of the clip. Since the screen replacement and the belt clip issue I just carry it in my pocket. I work construction and have pretty much ruined or broken every phone I’ve had, but thought that this case would maybe help this one survive. Sorry folks but the jury is still out.
