Ninety-year old Jacob lives in a nursing home where he spends most days parked in the hallway, waiting for Sundays when a visitor comes. He’s excited because a traveling circus has set up next door and he can’t wait to go. He flashes back to his youth during the Depression, when he was penniless and joined a third-rate circus as an almost-qualified vet. There, he fell in love with Marlena, the beautiful star horsewoman. Unfortunately, his boss was her brutish husband.
I absolutely loved this book. It contrasts the misery of being old and helpless with the non-stop action of life “on the show,” though that certainly had its share of misery, too. The pathetic circus Jacob joined was full of lively characters, some kindly, others cruel, and Jacob was forced to grow from naive youth to courageous man. There were many pages that reduced me to sobs, especially those detailing the agonizing despair of some nursing home residents and some instances of animal cruelty at the circus.
I would have given this book five stars, but I didn’t like that it was written in the first person (which immediately takes away some suspense as to the future of the narrator), and it was written entirely in the present tense which struck me as awkward. The story itself is engaging, exciting, touching, and rewarding. Highly recommended.

I have/had a Timex Ironman and have never been so aggravated with a sports watch/device as it. One slight bump of the buttons and the display would change to something that wasn’t easy/quickly to get out of… and many times that attempt would screw-up my the time/stats of my current run. Even if it didn’t, who likes to be distracted during there run, so… I decided to get this Forerunner. I’m not going to repeat what others have said nor list its features. I’ll just say that it is one simple operating sports watch with comprehensive abilities that provides the ability to do long term performance studies with the included software. If I did have something negative to say, it’d be about the cradle. The watch, especially with the second (long) watch band, is not easy to place on a flat surface without the watch popping out of the cradle. The cradle is used to charge and replicated data to and from the watch–no big deal.

I detest anything obstructing the view through the windshield, whether it’s knickknacks hanging from the rear-view mirror or something suction-cupped to the windshield.
I’m also not inclined to have mounts or evidence of dashboard electronics be visible from outside the car when I am not in it.
With this friction mount the view is clear, there are no suction cup marks on the windshield, and it’s heavy enough to hold the GPS steady through fairly hard turns and the finger-tapping on the screen. The bottom is also textured to grab the dashboard.
When parked, take the GPS with you or hide it, and hide the mount under the seat or back floorboard (if you have tinted windows to keep out prying eyes.)
A BIG bonus for some cars is that using this mount puts the screen on pretty much the same azimuth as (some) dashboard instruments, thus fewer and smaller movements to see or interact with the screen. Smart ergonomics.
I’m not sure why anyone would mount the permanent adhesive “horn” to their dashboard that comes with Garmins and to be fair, the suction-cup mount included with Garmins isn’t all bad… it’s just on the windshield demanding further reach, etc.
And has been stated many times already, the mount allows for easy transfer to a different vehicle.
This mount is worth every penny in my book.

Great product overall. Highly recommend. Purchasing the more expensive watches is not necessary. Forerunner 205 and 305 are excellent. I have experienced two minor issues. 1) Occassionally satelite finder is delayed and slow. When it occurs–Resolve by powering down watch and restart. 2) Rubber wrist strap is a little uncomfortable..may look into a replacement. Garmin Connect service online is a great tool also–Access anywhere following upload of activities on the web. thanks for the great price Amazon…

You will only know if you have been totally brainwashed by religion by reading this book with an open mind and ears to hear. If you can then you will be truely blessed by dialogue that takes place between God and a plain old human being that sincerely wanted answers to the hard questions in his own life. This book could possibly change you life like nothing else you have ever read. Take a chance…if you have been considering it…it may just be your time?

I have had many problems getting this to download from my area because of no signal or low signal. I have tried to download on computer but sometimes it does not work. And I have somehow pushed wrong button and deleted novel, took quite a while to get it figured out and back on. then when you do something wrong it is difficult to get back to page you were reading. Maybe after many tries I will be able to use it better but the cost of books is kind of high for most books and finding my favorite authors is not easy on your website.

I am SUCH a reader. My husband gifted me with this Kindle and though I had read about them and watched the product for a couple of years, I remained very skeptical about it, but I LOVE it. I mean, LOVE IT! It’s great for the gym – doesn’t flop around and fall off the shelf on the cardio machines. It’s great for travel and to slip in a purse to tote around. It’s green. Awarding four stars only because of one major design flaw which is that the screen is not backlit. I was also given the clip-on light which is sorta cute but poor. Bulb life is brief. Light quality is rotten. Lack of backlighting, major flaw when reading on airplane on evening flight or in room where another person is going to sleep etc. This is standard on like every single other electronic device in the world, so why not on Kindle? The screen is great even in direct bright sunlight, love the choices for font size and for orientation. Not all the books I want to read are on it, and books are expensive to me at $9.99. If you are a person who runs out and buys new hardbacks, it will be a good deal, but for someone who buys used and review copies, not so impressive. I live in the Bay Area, so not so great. And you sort of have to know what you are looking for to select without the ease of browsing through an actual bookshop, but they do have “recommendations for you” based on your order history like Amazon does. Better than nothing. I can burn through $100 a month with the kindle. I wish there was a tie in with the library…is that asking too much? Maybe a dream. anyway, great idea, great gadget.

I purchased two of these and discovered after opening the box that the suite does not include Microsoft Outlook. There was no way to return the product since the box was opened despite my complaints that the images online were not clear and what appeared to be Outlook on the front cover really read “OneNote” – a completely different program – but yes, begins with the letter “O.” With the image being unclear, I should have inquired by calling but it would have been a lot more helpful if the image was clearer so that we could know what we were buying. While Amazon customer service was helpful, a refund or credit was out of their hands because the product was sold via a third-party vendor- who was very unfriendly. I would not recommend this product nor would I recommend purchasing anything through a third-party since there is little if any recourse you have as a customer when purchasing their products.

Bought these two years ago and still works! Dont go out to Best Buy and buy those expensive HDMI cables. These will work as those would.

I upgraded to the new Kindle from the first generation one.
Here’s a little summary:
Worse – click-wheel, bookmarking
Better – battery, size, buttons, kindle store
Undecided – archiving, wireless on/off via menu
I love the sleek new look. Its a lot lighter, which is good because I carry it everywhere.
The new buttons are good, except for the click-wheel. It bothers me that the new click wheel doesn’t roll. It only clicks. You can hold it to do multiple clicks at one time, but that is too fast. This makes navigation a little more clumsy.
The navigation on the kindle store is better on the new device though. Because of the new design of the click-wheel you can click side to side. This means you don’t have to click through as many pages to see what you want.
My main other complaint about the new design of the kindle is the new bookmark functionality. You can no longer just scroll up to the top and click to bookmark the page. You have to click menu, click down about five times and select add a bookmark. Then to go to a bookmarked page you have to click My Notes & Marks in the menu. Although, once you are in the notes and marks page you can see the first two lines of the bookmarked page, which is nice.
The battery is great. I took a week long trip out of the country and didn’t have to charge it at all!
I’m undecided about the archiving business. Partly I’m still getting used to it. I’m wondering why there isn’t a way to do multiple downloads from the archive.
Another different thing is that there isn’t a button for the wireless connection. You go to the menu to turn it on or off. This hasn’t been a problem for me.
