My home has two occupants and no pets. I’ve had my carpets cleaned annually by [...] for years; they charge about $160 per trip to clean three bedrooms, a hallway, and a staircase in my home. I’ve timed their actually cleaning period, and it amounts to an average of about 30 minutes to clean these areas and I thought they performed a “satisfactory” job each time. Finally, I wanted to see if I could save money and purchase the Hoover F5914-900 and do the job myself. First, Amazon.com charges about $149 for this carpet cleaner, which is the cost of one (annual) visit by Stanley Steemer. Second, Amazon.com delivered the Hoover in two (2) days from my order date, and I picked “Super Saver Free Shipping” too! Maybe they like me because I’m a longtime, regular customer. I used the Hoover the night of arrival (yes on New Year’s Eve!) and I am quite impressed. It cleans well and you can tell by the dirt and dark colored water deposited in the collection tank. My only concern is I wish Hoover would include a larger, more elaborate cleaning tool for carpeted stairs; I found their tool a little small and inadequate to properly clean each of my carpeted stairs/steps. Otherwise I find the Hoover F5914-900 an excellent product which will allow me to save money and clean my carpets on my schedule, not Stanley Steemer’s (no more waiting for them to arrive and take time away from work for a carpet cleaning).
